Karim Benzema is very close to being confirmed as being out for the Champions League game against PSG. After several weeks out, he is still away from the rest of the squad, although he is training with the ball. ‘Marca’ reported this as Real Madrid trained on Wednesday morning ahead of the La Liga game with Villarreal on Saturday.

That said, the main focus for Real Madrid fans and experts is on the Frenchman and whether he will be ready in time for the European clash with the Parisians. During his absence, the team has had an issue scoring goals and that has meant Real Madrid have failed to win games or won them with great difficulty despite being favourites to get easy victories.

Without going any further, Marco Asensio had to save his side with a goal at home to Granada with a left footed shot from outside the area. In the Frenchman’s absence, Ancelotti has carried out several ‘experiments‘ such as against Granada. He played Isco as a false 9 and even though he played well, he was not as good in front of goal as a normal number 9 is.

‘Marca’ also adds that, although Real Madrid had said it was just a contracture of the hamstring after Benzema got injured against Elche, it is actually a small tear in the femoral biceps muscle. That is why he is struggling to be fit for the upcoming fixtures.
