COPE: Benzema ruled out of Villarreal match

Seriously bad news for Real Madrid. COPE’s journalist, Miguel Angel Diaz, has reported that Karim Benzema will be ruled out for Madrid’s visit to Villarreal this Saturday.

The French forward has been playing with niggles for a while now, but Carlo Ancelotti has barely been able to rest the striker due to limited options for rotation, and so he has had to play Benzema in most games. Benzema reached breaking point against Elche, as he left the pitch injured.

Any sign of a hamstring tear was ruled out, so simply muscular discomfort was concluded. However, his injury has worsened and he will be ruled out for the match against Villarreal after having also missed Madrid´s cup match against Athletic Bilbao and the La Liga game against Granada.

And that is despite the fact there was some slightly promising news earlier. Benzema had the ball at his feet this Thursday, which gave those most optimistic some hope. However, in reality it is the same as that of yesterday and there really is not much positive news to say about his current condition.

This news greatly impacts next Tuesday when Real Madrid take a trip to PSG in the last 16 of the Champions League. Benzema’s possible absence provides great motivation for another one of Real’s squad members to step up and get on the scoresheet
