The things which must happen for Xavi to replace Koeman

Barca’s start to the 2021-22 season has not been as expected. They were defeated 0-3 by Bayern Munich in the Champions League and they drew 1-1 with Granada in their last league match.

Those results have put Ronald Koeman in the firing line. His future as Barca coach is up in the air. 

Xavi Hernandez is one of the people whose name has been on the list of possible replacements for the Dutchman. Despite the fact ‘RAC1’ rued out the possibility of him succeeding Koeman, ‘Marca’ reports that his signing is “possible.”

That said, for Xavi to take over the reigns at Barcelona, a series of conditions have to be met. The former player would have to talk to the board to talk about certain issues before accepting the role. 

Firstly, Xavi will refuse to negotiate if there is a coach already in charge. If Barca finally go for Xavi, they will have to dismiss the previous boss first, in this case, Koeman. 

Once this has been done, Xavi will talk to Laporta. ‘Marca’ says that the now Al Sadd coach and the Barca president are friends so Xavi will listen to what he has to say. If he likes Laporta’s project, he will be willing to sit on the bench even if it happens during a season. 

Lastly, before saying yes to Barca, Xavi would have to talk to his club, Al Sadd. There he feels comfortable and happy. Initially, his plan was to stay there until 2023 and that is why he recently renewed with them. If he changes his mind, the coach would talk to the board. ‘Marca’ says that his club “would not have a problem in letting him go.”

It remains to be seen whether Barcelona opt for Xavi or not. If they do so, this time they have a real chance of getting him, according to the Madrid based newspaper.
