OFFICIAL: Sergi Barjuan, new interim coach at Barca
Sergi Barjuan will coach the Barcelona first team in the coming days, at least until Xavi Hernandez’s appointment is confirmed. He is taking over from Ronald Koeman who was sacked after the defeat to Rayo.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta will present Sergi Barjuan to the first team this Thursday afternoon before training.
In addition, according to ‘AS’, Laporta will also take advantage of the meeting to tell them that an agreement with Xavi has been reached and he will become the first team coach in the coming days. He will also give them encouragement for the next few matches especially for the game in Kiev which is huge for Barca’s Champions League last 16 hopes.
Sergi Barjuan will talk to the media this Friday at 13:00 CEST in the press room ahead of the match between Barca and Alaves. Joan Laporta will also be in the room to present the caretaker coach.
The current Barca B coach will probably return to the B team once Xavi arrives. Barca B are currently 11th with 13 points in the Primera Division RFEF (the third tier), three points off the play-off places after a poor start to the campaign. Now he will be in charge of the Barca first team for a few days.
