‘Sport’: agreement reached between Xavi and Barca
It is almost an open secret. Barcelona are working quickly to bring a new coach to the club and if there are no last minute changes, that will be Xavi Hernandez.
The former player feels prepared to accept the complicated roile of changing the course of the team and Joan Laporta feels there is nobody better to take over the reigns and to occupy the post of the now sacked Ronald Koeman.
Talks have been going on for days and they have accelerated in the last few hours. ‘Sport’ reports that there is no an agreement between the Barcelona board and Xavi Hernandez.
It is not all surprising because Xavi’s desire to return to the Camp Nou is well known and he has already made history at Al Sadd with seven titles in just over two years. His time in Qatari football is more than justified.
The former player is now making the necessary steps to complete his departure from Al Sadd. He has a buyout clause of just one million euros so that will not stop him joining Barcelona.
In that alleged agreement, Barcelona have accepted that Xavi Hernandez will arrive with his team of staff, so his brother Oscar, Sergi Alegre (as assistant) Ivan Torres as fitness trainer will also join Barca.
What is clear is that Barca do not want to spend much time between Koeman’s departure and the arrival of the new coach before there is something which needs to be sorted out urgently. In fact, the club delayed the start of the training session on Thursday to see how things go and whether an interim coach is needed until Xavi arrives.
